Gilman International Scholarship

Awards of up to $5,000 to support U.S. citizen undergraduates receiving Pell Grant funding. Students studying in Critical Need Language countries may receive an additional $3,000 supplement for a total possible award of $8,000. Applicants must study abroad for a minimum of three weeks.

Gilman-McCain Scholarship

The Gilman-McCain Scholarship Program, funded by the U.S. Dept. of State, provides support for undergraduate child dependents of active duty military member(s) to study or intern abroad. In order to be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens receiving any type of Title IV federal financial aid and the study abroad program must last at least three weeks.

Boren Scholarship

Provides funding opportunities for U.S. citizen undergraduates to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad. Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.


Boren Scholars are highly motivated individuals who wish to work in the federal national security arena. In exchange for funding, Boren Scholars commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation. 


Maximum scholarship awards are:

Up to $8,000 for a summer program (STEM majors only; 8-11 weeks) 

Up to $12,500 for a semester (12 weeks minimum)

Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program

Offered by the U.S. Dept. of State, this is a summer study abroad opportunity for U.S. students to learn languages essential to America's engagement with the world. Scholarship recipients will spend 8-10 weeks abroad studying one of 15 critical languages and participate in structured cultural enrichment experiences. Critical languages include Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu.


       Award: most costs associated with the program, excluding passport fees and the cost of a medical screening

Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) Scholarship

FEA has several different study abroad scholarships to support undergraduate students (U.S. citizens & permanent residents) participating in abroad programs for a minimum of 4 weeks. As an applicant to FEA, you are considered for all of the scholarships you meet the criteria for. FEA gives preference to students with demonstrated financial need, and strongly encourages students to apply who represent a group that is traditionally underrepresented in education abroad (first-generation, minority, LGBTQ students, etc.).


Funding Amounts: FEA awards scholarships of up to $5,000 for students who plan to study abroad during the fall or spring semester. For students studying abroad in the summer, scholarship amounts are prorated by number of weeks in-country (minimum of $1,250).

Diversity Abroad Oversees Ambassador Scholarship

Provides funding to students who commit to serving as overseas correspondents while studying or interning abroad. Recipients will be asked to share their experiences by writing articles and sharing inspiring photos and videos. Economically disadvantaged students, first-generation students, students with disabilities, and ethnically/racially diverse students are strongly encouraged to apply. 


Funding Amounts: $500 stipend for fall / spring semester (five stipends available) and two $500 stipends available for summer term.

Diverse International Women of Color (DIWC) Scholarship

The Diverse International Women Of Color (DIWC) Study Abroad Scholarship is intended to assist women of color who are exceptional in their studies and in need of financial assistance to study abroad.

DIWC awards $500 scholarships to women of color who have been accepted to an in-person study abroad program.

The Going Abroad Scholarship

Twice a year, two students will win a scholarship towards their upcoming study abroad program (two students in the fall, and two in the spring). Open to US Citizens or Permanent Residents and studying abroad for either a semester or summer. To enter, you must submit a three or four-minute video essay.

Funding Amount: $1,500

Application Deadlines:  October 15 by 11:59 pm PST (spring programs) and March 15 by 11:59 pm PST (summer and fall programs)


Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and has applied to/been accepted into a study abroad program for the fall or spring semester only. 


Funding Amount: $1,000 & a travel backpack

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants

You are eligible to apply if you are a Phi Kappa Phi member and you have a cumulative GPA of a 3.75 or higher. One-hundred twenty-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year.
